Stud History

Our Selection
Policy

Our policy is to acquire and utilise only the very best Australian Grey Brahman Sires. These sires must exhibit superior weight for age, carcass quality, robust constitution, high fertility and virility, marked masculinity, attractive breed character, genetic strength, and visual appeal. This consistent focus on selection and substantial investment in high-quality sires over many years has solidified the development of Elrose Brahmans as a “true to type” herd. Our herd is characterised by impressive uniformity and consistency in the criteria essential for optimum beef production.

Rigorous Selection
Process

We place a strong emphasis on selecting sires that meet our stringent requirements for fertility, carcass qualities, sound structure, and “do-ability” rather than adhering to any particular “fashionable” bloodline. Many of our sires have been sourced from the McCamleys’ Tartrus and Lancefield Studs simply because they consistently meet our rigorous criteria.

Continuous
Improvement

We remain vigilant in seeking bulls that can elevate Elrose Stud to new heights. Top sires are rare and require investment whenever they become available, regardless of the cost. Our sires undergo rigorous work within the stud herd, with a joining period of 120 days. Young two-year-old sires are mated with 30-40 females in their first season and are expected to cover larger herds, up to 70 cows, in subsequent seasons.

Adaptation
and Fertility

The nature of our terrain necessitates well-adapted females. Fertility of dam lines is a key priority and is assessed alongside other selection traits. While we utilised Embryo Transfer for many years, today, every calf at Elrose must be naturally conceived and born.
